Video: The time will pass anyway-- might as well use it

advance advance planner video Jun 25, 2021

One of the biggest we have... is our perception of TIME, and how much of it we have, or how long the dream will take, how much time might pass for healing comes, before we're able to launch into our next mission, discover our purpose... or whatever it is...

We don't like waiting...

Or, waiting (sometimes) intimidates us.

But, regardless of how long it takes to move from where you are to where you want to be, remember... that time is going to pass anyway. Might as well do something productive with it...

+++

Somebody told me that your checkbook reveals what’s important to you. That is, follow the trail of where your money goes and we can see what truly matters…

Same is true of TIME.

It’s easy to say we value certain things, but… when we turn and look at where the time was invested, the calendar SOMETIMES tells a different story, right?

Now… this season, as we stride into summer… a time when we often stop + pause + reflect… because we see things growing and begin going outside, taking walks, grabbing some much needed vacation…

… we move forward with the expectation that some things will change… in fact, we HOPE that some things RADICALLY adjust.

(Especially after that 2020 stuff, right?)

Some things are in our control, some aren’t.

And some of our time we can manage… some, let’s be honest, gets managed or gets “taken” by obligations and emergencies and other things…

But what about the parts we can manage?

The parts where we have a say?

The places where we CAN dictate what we want do to and when…

Let’s focus there…

And, as we do, let’s commit to just moving a little bit closer to our destination each day…

A little progress, it seems, goes a long way…

Both of those are important— progress and direction.

It’s easy to defer working on a project, a dream, or even rebuilding your life because— face it— there’s always “so much work to do.” On anything.

And getting started = often the hardest.

Especially when there seems to be a big distance between where you are and where you want to be…

… and, moresoo, when that distance seems to have gotten longer, farther, the divide deeper… and that you may have actually “lost ground” due to a stumble, a sin, a snafu— even if it was your fault, someone else’s, or (as most things are) a tangly mix of both…

Maybe you’ve been through the grinder—

… the divorce, bankruptcy, foreclosure, ridiculed, shamed, questioned, doubted… OR even ALL of the above (or more)…
.
But… the time that is NOW and COMING will pass anyway. Even if you DON’T set your hand to the plow…

So,

✅ you get to invest it now, making what progress you can…

… or

❌ you can hit the perpetual pause, procrastinate, punt…

(And, there are NEVER a shortage of reasons to push off to tomorrow what you could chip a bit away at today…).

Rome… might have fallen seemingly overnight (it didn’t), but there’s wide-spread agreement it wasn’t built in a day.

Neither is life.

The best things can’t be microwaved or short-ordered. The best stuff = slow-cooked. Over time.

And that’s why you have to go for progress, not perfection. That is, just moving a bit closer to your intended destination each day…

And it’s why you chart direction (as in, “am I moving in the right one?”)… not distance (“did I make it all the way?”— totally annoying when kids ask that in the car, right?, yet we crush ourselves with that question in life…).

Get up. And get going again. You’ve got it.

And, even if some of the closest people kicked you to the curb, there are strangers even cheering you from the sidelines, standing in your corner…

(And many of the closest… they come back around.).
