Top 7 = month late birthday date + more

top 7 Jan 23, 2023

The highlight reel for last week features a month late birthday date, a date night that we snuck in between all the sports, and a few other observations about some of our projects that are winding down.

If you’re just now dropping in, each week I look back at the week behind + preview the week ahead— so I don’t miss anything— and look and highlight at least one thing for which I’m grateful in each of the 7 key areas of life…

Fitness = 3 weeks of workouts

Looked at the calendar and just crossed day 21 of workouts— for the 75 hard-ish challenge I’ve been doing with a few guys. At this point, my body actually CRAVES the workouts. I feel more focused throughout the day, and I’m sleeping way better.

Finance = What happens when you die?

This week I made a few notes— to update several things. Namely, to address the  question (from a financial standpoint) of “what happens when you die?”

We don’t like to think about stuff like that— but, as you know, the death rate is 100%. And, unfortunately, without a plan in place, many people are left with a bunch of questions, a stack of legal issues to handle, and unnecessary hassles.

So, we made a few steps to solve it all on the front end.

Family  = The month late birthday date

Ivey and I share a birthday— mid-December. For years, we’ve just called out “our birthday” and have even shared cakes and birthday dinners in the past.

We celebrated her— with a mystery box and the fam— on the first Sunday of December. Then we decided to go out “on or about” our birthday for the celebration. But, Christmas and retail (she works at Louis Vuitton) and schedules didn’t jive.

We finally made it last week— to the new Blue Sushi restaurant at the Summit.

I opted for a sushi roll. Fried. Those are my favorite.

They have two different ones. When I asked which was best, the waitress said she’s bring us BOTH— one on the house— so we could see for ourselves….

Field = Finished draft

I making a few work shifts this year.

That left a final ghost-writing project dangling. I created a few time blocks to make the magic happen, giving myself three weeks of runway to pound-out 150-ish pages.

To my surprise— and absolute delight— I finished 5 days into a 21 day-run! Sent the draft off LAST WEDNESDAY!

The book launches late March— I’ll post a link when it’s live.

Faith = Lessons on the supernatural

The book deals with the supernatural— and lessons learned from a well-known healing evangelist. I was pleasantly delighted with the info presented to me and discovered that a LOT of what I thought I knew about the man was actually the OPPOSITE of what is true…

And, I found myself stretched in several areas as I wrestled with his insights, mined Scripture to evaluate the truth, and then found ways to articulate it all in practical ways. It was a great experience.

Friends = Dave & Busters w/ Mini

Mini asked about heading to Dave & Busters this Saturday, so we grabbed a friend and went.

Fun = Snuck in the date night

Finally, Beth and I found a window between all of the kids’ basketball games and wrestling matches this week to find a quiet space to dine and talk and just… be…

We visited The Anvil, a place we’ve been before— several months in the rear view mirror. We grabbed a quiet spot at the far end of the bar, away from the crowd, and relished the easy pace…

… a great respite amidst two wrestlers, two basketball players, four gals in college, and a few projects wrapping as we push into some new things.
