Top 7 = Sold the car + setup for new film

top 7 Jul 17, 2023

This week’s Top 7 includes a bunch of friends at the house, some 1:1 time with several of the kids, and date night.

Oh, and I’ve got a new friend that I bump into SEVERAL times each week when I’m out for my run.

Fitness = A new friend on my run

Meet Victoria. For the past few weeks, she’s met me at the corner near LifeTime Fitness / Patchwork Shopping Center. She lives down the street and— apparently— takes her scooter for a ride every morning about the same time I run.

At least 2-3 days a week, for the past two weeks, she’s met me at the corner— complete with claps and cheers as I round the long, rolling hill near Altadena.

Finance = Ivey’s car

This week I sold Ivey’s (old) car. It HAD been sitting on the side yard for about 9 months. And, before that, it had sat at “two apartments ago” for about the same amount of time.

The story is…

… almost two years ago she got tired of fixing it, so she bought a newer car.

Then she moved.

The old complex eventually grew wise to it when actually plants began sprouting from the leaves (and mulch / dirt) that fell on the car. They called her to move it— or they would tow it.

She and I moved it to my house, where it sat for awhile…

Finally, this week…

Family = Noah’s bike +

Noah rode over to do some maintenance on his bike this week…

Then, on Saturday, I was able to:

βœ… go eat lunch with Levi, 1:1

βœ… got a visit from Em and a friend at our house— after she met Beth for lunch

βœ… went to see Mission Impossible 7– or whatever number we’re on— with Judah

Field = Setup for Trauma Comes Home

The first screenings of the new documentary are set for the final week of July— at the Homewood Theatre (in Soho).

This week, Bob and I set up “all the things” to check sound and lights and seats and so much more…

Faith = Heaven

Wednesday I started working my way through my Dad’s “pages” on Heaven— a lengthy study he put together and taught before his recent retirement. Working my way through the material was enlightening, enjoyable…

… it was / is so good.

⭐️

I took a “mental break” a few hours in to go for a run…

(Yes, mid-afternoon, in the heat.)

Then, I came back and did some more work.

When it was time for another “mental break,” I sorted the “out of control” shelves in the Tiny House and transformed them into this—

Friends = Boys, 10 on Tuesday

Beth took the gals to the beach this week (first part to the week)— to see family, swim, and enjoy the sun. Some of the boys had sports; others had to work. I stayed behind and “manned the fort” and handled the guys…

Tuesday, a few friends came over…

… and then more.

After awhile, we had 10 boys in the house. So, what started as a “low key” week quickly went full throttle.

One of the neighbors, Joe, gave some of the guys a ride from a neighbor’s pool back to the #hilltop…

And, the boys ran the typical bonfire + basketball combo out on the courtyard.

Fun = Date night x 2

Beth and I went out Thursday evening— the day they got back from the beach. We tried a new place at the Summit, which completely lived up to the hype.

The strange thing is this…

As soon as we got going, all the kids started texting— needing something.

But, we blocked the time, ate…

… walked around…

… and just hit the pause button on life and enjoyed each other.

For as long as I’ve known her, doing anything, unrushed, without a defined plan, is always some of the best times…

The next day, Mini and I went out to the theatre…

Here she is, “boba tea” and caramel popcorn in hand, ready to go in.

That’s the highlight reel for the week.

Each week I look back at the week behind + preview the week ahead— so I don’t miss anything— and look and highlight at least one thing for which I’m grateful in each of the 7 key areas of life…

I track everything I do in the Advance Planner, including 3 things I’m grateful for each day…

Then, at the end of the week, I do a quick review, to see all the stuff that happened.
