Top 7 = Disentangled group begins, Purpose workshop starts

top 7 Jun 19, 2023

This week we started the new Disentangled group AND I began a 2-week study on Purpose…

Those two projects— and a few fun things— made this weeks “Top 7.”

Fitness = Running again

Last week I took some time off from running— after pulling my back WHILE mid-stride a few miles from the house. It wasn’t a big deal, but I decided it’s best to let it take time to heal— rather than pushing through.

Especially since there’s no goal or huge metric at the end of that run— it’s not like I’m training for a marathon, a 50K, a bike ride, or anything else…

I’m just exercising “for me.”

Truth be told…

πŸ”₯ Exercise IS when I have some great alone time

πŸ”₯ Exercise IS when I get some of my best thinking done

πŸ”₯ Exercise IS something I actually “feel” as it calibrates the entire day…

So, it was good to be back on the road.

Finance = Upgraded “Salter’s car”

The “blacked-out” SUV I drive is Salter’s…

He thinks.

He just turned 10. I bought the car on his 6th birthday a few years ago, when I needed something to haul all the kids.

He actually rode with me— in an Uber— to pick it up. Then, we celebrated his birthday. In the new car.

He’s always just assumed…

πŸ€ͺ

I’ve made it my goals to hold onto that car until he’s 16. I figure a 10-year run an an already-used car will mark a great milestone (it will likely have 300K miles by then, if it even lasts), and I’ll pass it to him for his 16th and get me something new.

So, I’ve been working to keep it up.

New headlights last year.

Great maintenance records.

All the things.

πŸ’š

Recently, Levi (16) painted the wheels on his Honda Accord. It’s the rage these days, I suppose.

He asked about painting the Kia.

“Sure…”

So, he’s the before…

And the during…

I’ll post an after next week— if I remember to grab a good shot.

Suffice to say, the car DOES look better. And, keeping it up— instead of buying something newer— is cheaper and, I hope, teaching the kids a bit about taking care of your stuff…

Family = Elemental with Mini…

(And Salter, who refused to be in the shot.)

This week, Mini played basketball just about EVERY day. That left her tired in the afternoons (and, me too— all the driving around!).

We went to see Elemental, a Pixar cartoon.

And, of course, had to go grab a “boba tea.”

Field = Disentangled group starts

We launched the Disentangled small group this week. Disentangled is a 6-week Bible study that Bob Waldrep and I put together at Crosswinds Foundation for Faith & Culture.

It empowers veterans to walk through the Scripture as they overcome the hurts associated with military service, identity points of healing, and move forward into their next mission.

And it’s soaked in Scripture.

We’re meeting at my house for 6 weeks, Monday evenings, 6:00pm. My goal is to walk through all 6 lessons just in time to release the new documentary, Trauma Comes Home, so that some of these participants are equipped to lead and/or participate in groups we launch after the documentary releases in late July.

This is Scott and Thor, his service dog.

Here’s Mini with Thor— after a few of us were talking post-group meeting.

(BTW, she’s only petting Thor b/c Scott “released” him to her. Never touch a service dog that’s on duty AND without the owner offering.)

Faith = LifeLift / Purpose class at Believer’s Temple, Docena

That’s Linda Griggs on the right— a lady who helps run the admin (and so much more) at Believer’s Temple. I met her about a year ago when I was at a meeting at the Metro Birmingham Baptist Association.

One of the leaders there recommended the LifeLift resources to her for her church. In fact, she was THE FIRST person to buy the workbook.

At the time, they were moving into a new facility— and were busy with the painting and the electrical and the plumbing and the infinite list of projects that comes along with every remodel. So, it’s JUST NOW that we’re able to go out and teach…

We broke it into two weeks…

We’ll give the LifeLift book to you FREE— if you pay the shipping and handling.

Here’s the link to claim yours: www.Jenkins.tv/free

That’s the highlight reel for the week.

If you’re just now dropping in, each week I look back at the week behind + preview the week ahead— so I don’t miss anything— and look and highlight at least one thing for which I’m grateful in each of the 7 key areas of life…
